複眼 Compound Eyes

This ongoing series is about seeing nature as other species see it. It is driven by the practice of empathizing with those who are least like us and finding the beauty that survives ugliness. While dogs only have two color receptors and gecko vision is excellent at night, mosquitos have two pairs of compound eyes that are wide-angled and highly sensitive to motion. Many kill them without a thought, without knowing that there are over 3500 species of mosquitos, and only a few hundred bites humans. Mosquitos actually serve as food for many species, bats, birds, fish, frogs, pollinating flowers and filtering plants for it to thrive and even affecting the herding paths of reindeers in the Tundra. Through the eyes of the mosquito offers a new perspective from the single-aperture human eye which covers only 185 degrees. The work is entirely shot on 35mm or 120mm film, and mounted under plexiglass and the collection has grown to over 100 photographs. I have plans to expand this series to many more species.
